General Race Information (Race Day – Sept 20, 2015)

As the main goal of this race is to raise funds for Canadian Humanitarian we felt it necessary to accommodate as many ages and abilities as possible so that everyone can feel comfortable entering the race and not feel pressured by the competition.  With this in mind we have divided the race into five main categories.  The categories are, the 1/2 Hour Test (Ages 3 to 6), 1 Hour Test (Ages 7 to 10), the 2 Hour Test, (Ages 11 to 15), the Test Ride (one lap only for ages 16 and over) and the 4 Hour Test (ages 16 and over).  Please see below for full category descriptions.  When determining your age category, it will be governed by your actual age on race day.

There will be awards given to the first three finishers in each age group in every category.  First place category finishers in the 1/2 Hour Test, 1 Hour Test and 2 Hour Test will receive custom built Test of Humanity trophies, while the Test Ride and 4 Hour Test category winners will each receive the now much coveted, kiln fired, Test of Humanity coffee mugs from the Lisa Prowse Collection (check out our blog page for a photo of the mugs).  But don’t worry there will be lots of other great prizes given out, so stick around for the awards presentations.

On race day there will be pre-race meetings for the Test Ride and the 2 Hour Test at 8:30 am. The 1/2 Hour Test meeting will be at 08:45 am.  The 1 Hour Test meeting will be at 9:45 am and the 4 Hour Test will be at 11:00 am.  The Test Ride and 2 Hour Test will start at the same time but from different locations, the Test Ride will start where the old flume line crosses Morrow Ave, while the 2 Hour Test will start from the race timing tent at the staging area.  The 1/2 Hour Test and the 1 Hour Test will also start at the race timing tent at the staging area, while the 4 Hour Test will start on Denike Street.

The 4 Hour Test (16 years and over)

Please note in order to ensure overcrowding of the course does not happen, we have capped this event at 75 solo riders and 75 teams, for a total of 150 riders on the course at the same time.  To prevent disappointment get signed up early.

The 4 Hour Test category will complete a 4 hour endurance race.  The objective is to do as many loops as you can within 4 hours.  The race course is a 9.75 km loop with approximately 85% of the course being single track and plenty of areas to pass.  There are nine hills throughout the course, with 280 meters of climbing.  The course has been designed for riders with moderate to expert riding abilities.  It is a cardio endurance course, while there are some slightly exposed side hill sections; most moderate to expert riders would not consider it technically difficult.  Many of the downhill corners have been banked for your enjoyment, while multiple switchbacks and alternate routes have been included to make some of the climbing sections easier.

If you feel that doing the 4 hour endurance race solo is a bit much for you then you may want to consider entering with a friend and go as a team of two, that way you will get a good rest between laps.  There is no set combination of laps required in the team event.  In other words you can alternate after any amount of laps with your partner, you could even do just one lap and make your partner do all the rest, although your partner may have something to say about that!

If you are still worried about your technical ability, you might want to consider entering the Test Ride instead (see the Test Ride category for details). In addition to the great cycling terrain, the 4 Hour Test race course has many spectacular panoramic views of the Okanagan Summerland area and is well worth doing for the views alone.

The Test Ride (16 years and over)

Please note in order to ensure overcrowding of the course does not happen we have capped this event at 100 riders.  To prevent disappointment get signed up early.

As this race will be run at the same time as the 2 Hour Test we will be starting the Test Ride where the old flume line crosses Morrow Ave, while the 2 Hour Test will start at the race timing tent at the staging area.  This should prevent any congestion at the start of the race.

The Test Ride is a race that has been designed for riders that don’t really feel they have the skills or endurance to compete in the 4 Hour Test category.   The objective of The Test Ride is to have as much fun as possible on a course that is easily ridden with moderate mountain biking skills.  For those of you that have always wanted to enter a mountain biking event but were too nervous to try, then this event is for you as you can take as long as you want and just enjoy the ride! With the course now starting at Morrow Ave the total length is 9.8 km with 280 meters of climbing.  The course has been designed for riders with moderate riding abilities. Many of the downhill corners have been banked for your enjoyment.  In addition to the great cycling terrain, the Test Ride riders will have the same spectacular panoramic views that the 4 Hour Test riders will be experiencing.

The 2 Hour Test (11 to 15 years)

Please note due to rider feedback that we have received we have made some changes to this event. Now back by popular demand we have added male and female solo categories to this event and have removed the mixed team category.  In order to ensure overcrowding of the course does not happen we have capped this event at 100 riders.  To prevent disappointment get signed up early.

The 2 Hour Test category is a 2 hour endurance race for both teams and solo riders.  The objective is to do as many loops as you can within 2 hours.   For the teams there is no set combination of laps required.  In other words you can alternate after any amount of laps with your partner, you could even do just one lap and make your partner do all the rest.  However, in order to maintain a long term friendship we do not necessarily advise this method!   The race course is a 5.55 km loop with approximately 85% of the course being single track and plenty of areas to pass.  There are five hills on the course totalling 160 meters of climbing. The course has been designed for riders with moderate to expert riding abilities. Many of the downhill corners have been banked for your enjoyment.

In addition to the great cycling terrain, the 2 Hour Test category race course also has some spectacular panoramic views of the Okanagan Summerland area.

The 1 Hour Test (7 to 10 years)

Please note that the 7 to 10 year old’s now have a separate race from the 3 to 6 year old’s, and will be running at different times.  In order to ensure overcrowding of the course does not happen we have capped this event at 50 riders.  To prevent disappointment get signed up early.

The 1 Hour Test category is a 1 hour race.  The objective is to have lots of fun and at the same time try to do as many loops as you can within 1 hour.  Parents are welcome to accompany their children on foot but please always make way for other racers to pass on the course.

The race course is a 1 km loop with approximately 65% of the course being single track and plenty of areas to pass.  There are no real hills on the course but there is some rolling terrain. The course has been designed for young riders with moderate abilities.
